Fraserburgh Golf Club, founded in 1777 and the oldest club in the UK still operating under its original name, has taken a delivery of new equipment from Fairways GM, Ransomes Jacobsen’s dealer for Scotland. Ransomes Jacobsen is a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company.

The new machines from the Jacobsen golf range are a Greens King VI triplex greens mower and an LF-3800 light fairway mower, which will be used on the club’s two courses, the 18-hole Corbiehill and the 9-hole Rosehill course.

Head greenkeeper John Littlejohn has been in the job for the past 11 years and leads a team of just three full-time staff. The Corbiehill course is a classic Scottish links and John and his team have been working to keep it in immaculate condition by bring back the definition between the various playing areas. The fairways were previously cut with a gang mower, but the acquisition of the LF-3800 with its contour hugging cylinders and all-weather cab has contributed to the improved presentation.

“The Greens King VI provides an excellent quality of cut and enhances the presentation of the greens, while the LF is the best fairway machine for following the undulations on our 27-holes,” he said. “It also copes admirably with the heavier growth on the Rosehill course. Both machines are easy to maintain, easy to set up and height of cut adjustment is simple.”

“We’ve taken the equipment on a contract hire basis as it suits our budgeting requirements perfectly,” added Bertie Baird, the club’s Captain. “We know exactly how much each machine costs per month and with maintenance included we have no unforeseen or unplanned expenses. The fact that Fairways are opening a new depot in Aberdeenshire was also a contributory factor in our decision making.”

Fraserburgh Golf Club was founded on 14th April 1777 and is the 5th oldest club in Scotland and the 7th oldest in the World. The original course was nine holes played on Fraserburgh Links but moved approximately half a mile south to its present location at Philorth Links in 1891.
