Almost 130 students, parents, teachers and guests gathered at Trinity Park in Ipswich recently for the culmination of the IP-City Ransomes Jacobsen Awards for design and technology. RANSOMES JACOBSEN is a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company

The standard of entries for the awards never fails to impress the judges and visitors, and this year was certainly no exception. Over thirty of Ipswich’s best GCSE design and technology students entered work into the Awards and some really imaginative and expertly created projects were on display.

A panel of three local judges; Shaun Bailey, Director of Jacob Bailey design agency; Tim Lansdell, Technical Director for Ransomes Jacobsen, and Valerie Fehners, County Education Advisor for Design and Technology, spent time with all the entrants viewing their projects before gathering to make their final decisions.

Five students were chosen as the overall winners - one in each of the four categories with an additional Award of Achievement being presented to the student that the judges felt had overcome exceptional circumstances in order to enter their project into the awards. Each received their certificates from Cllr Inga Lockington, the Mayor of Ipswich.

The 2007 winners are:

Graphics Award: Hannah Boulter, St Alban’s Catholic High School

Product Design Award: Stefan Noble, Stoke High School

Resistant Materials Award: Emily Waters, Westbourne High School

Textiles Award: Hannah Hopton, Northgate High School

Overall Award of Achievement: Miranda Overett, Parkside School,

Tim Lansdell, head of the judging panel said, “Congratulations to all the students and teachers involved who put in so much hard work to bring these projects to fruition. Ipswich, the county of Suffolk and, indeed, all of the UK needs students to be inspired to produce work of this calibre. I will be delighted, if in the future, these students come looking for work with us here in Ipswich. We need technical designers and innovators to keep our manufacturing industry fresh and at the forefront of developing technology. These revitalised IP-City Ransomes Jacobsen Awards help confirm what an exciting and innovative place Ipswich is to live and work.”

The Ransomes Awards were established nearly 20 years ago to support apprentices within the engineering industry. Today, refreshed and renamed, the IP-City Ransomes Jacobsen Awards encourage talented design and technology students to consider the variety of options that a career in this area could offer. Ransomes Jacobsen were pleased to re-affirm their support for this project and will continue to be closely involved in the development of these Awards, which help to encourage this important link between education and industry..
