The Fota Island Golf Resort has taken delivery of a fleet of 40 golf cars and two shuttle vehicles from E-Z-GO, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company.
Located just a few minutes drive south from Cork City, the resort lies in the heart of a 780-acre wooded estate featuring a challenging, 18-hole, par 71, championship course, a recently opened 9-hole course and practice facility.
In November 2004, the Flemming Group purchased the Fota Island Golf Club and has transformed it into an international resort with a 5-star hotel featuring 131 guest rooms, a 1,600 square metre spa with 17 treatment rooms, a full-length swimming pool, hydro-pool, and walking river. Located around the resort is a residential development of course side and courtyard Lodges, built in tradition style and luxuriously finished.
“This fleet of golf cars plays an important factor in the atmosphere and ambience that we have created here at Fota Island”, says General Manager, Jonathan Woods. “Not only are they used around the course, but they are also used at the residential Lodges, with each Lodge having undercover parking for individual buggies. In addition the resort has also purchased two 6-seater shuttle vehicles for ferrying guests around the complex.”
Woods continued, “We have opted for the E-Z-GO Freedom cars as they are electric powered and virtually noiseless, which is ideal for the residential nature of the area. They also feature onboard chargers and a unique battery fill system which automatically tops up any cell that is low on electrolyte. The onboard charger allows the buggies to be recharged from any 240 volt socket, at the Lodges or at our bespoke buggy park.”
“The fleet was purchased from our local dealer, Kevin Broderick Ltd of Tipperary, who we know well from their association with our greenkeeping team; they provide some of our golf course maintenance equipment and their service and after sales support has been very reliable.”

“We have received an excellent and responsive service from Broderick’s,” Jonathan Woods added, “which is essential for an investment of this magnitude. I am delighted with the E-Z-GO cars; they are reliable, easy to maintain, quiet and being emission-free they are friendly to the unique environment here on Fota Island.”
